Fashion in Blue Valentine

Independent films are great to watch because of all the creativity and effort that needs to go in even distributing them or getting them made. My case in point would be Blue Valentine, starring Ryan Gosling, the handsome hunk nearly every other girl is crazy after.

When the Gosling craze began in 2011, it seemed like another Tumblr-powered, fleeting fad that would soon die. However, all those assumptions were soon proved wrong with women becoming crazy about the guy and still are to this day. In Blue Valentine, he will make you question every relationship you have ever had. The entire movie is based around the lyrical, brutally real portrayal of love and breakups.
Gosling’s wardrobe in the entire movie was very non-fashion. Just take a look at his black hoodie that he wore under a leather biker jacket. He pairs this casual attire with a pair of boots and flat-fronted burgundy work-wear pants. Although his clothing was not all that fashionable, it was still stylish enough to make people want to replicate it. His Blue Valentine jacket have become a huge hit with countless people, prompting numerous companies to come up with replicas of his Blue Valentine jackets.

Although this movie is not one with a specific fashion appeal, Ryan Gosling has such a presence and the movie is so tightly focused around both his and co-star Michelle Williams’ faces and bodies, that the details of their wardrobe and their movement gives off the vibe of a great promo film or fashion shoot.
